I saw
Superman Returns last night. I know everyone is going to be asking me how it is (if they already haven't), so I'll put it this way:
When
Superman is on the screen it's completely awesome. When
Clark Kent is on the screen it's kinda boring. When
Lex Luthor (
Kevin Spacy) is on the screen, it's great for all but maybe one scene (and sometimes the scenes are just a tad long).
I was going to go into detail and nitpick (ie "Geek Out") on the movie but the
IGN review nails how I felt about the movie almost EXACTLY on the head. I only disagreed on one part of the review and I'll hide the text so I won't spoil the movie if you haven't already seen it. Highlight the text if you want to read it anyway:
I disagree that the kid (Superman's Son) detracts from the movie but I also don't think he really adds anything, even to Superman's character. He could have be cut from the movie and the movie would be fine but in the same respect I don't think that when he slams the piano into one of Luthor's thugs it's a "Jump the Shark" moment. IF he's going to be in the movie I think that scene was necessary.Anyway,
read the review, except for that one bit, it sums up how I feel about the movie. It IS worth seeing for the special effect scenes on the big screen though. Maybe not worth paying full price ($10 where I live!) but a matinee price or discounted tickets would be ideal.
